Consider Private Lessons
Band directors would like to give every student personal attention on a regular basis, but the realities of the job make that impossible, so you may wish to supplement your child’s in-school instruction with private lessons. Private lessons aren't “remedial.” Rather, they allow the student to gain something additional from their musical experience. What are the best ways to find the right private teacher for your child?
- Ask your child’s school music teacher or band director for recommendations.
- Find out whether your local music store has a teaching studio in which private lessons are offered.
- Ask other band parents for a recommendation.
- Call the music department of a local college. It may have a list of students who offer lessons, or it may have a bulletin board on which students post their own “for hire” notices.
- Check out bulletin boards at local music stores.
- Call another area school and ask the band director or music teacher there for recommendations.
